The Acer D2D Erecovery 101
Disclaimer: First of all backup your system before releasing you in any hazardous operation, a few of the operations to come can cause data reduction. Any modification and/or damage carried out on your laptop will be under your obligation.
As you know now the Acer laptops and those of other producers are now delivered with a restoration program installed in a hidden partition (PQservice for Acer)on your hard disk. Normally this system launches out while pushing simultaneously keys ALT+F10, but occasionally that does not function.
What’s the issue?
There are many possible causes, several common are:
A The functionality D2D was disabled in the bios.
Solution: Enable the functionality by pressing F2 during the shoe to access the bios menu and alter the setting, then reboot plus press keys ALT+F10 during the beginning of the laptop.
Note: For all the following solutions take into account the Max advice, I quote Max today, a contributor in my site « But I want to mention the way We sorted out the thing, because it is extremely rarely mentioned on the web. All the techniques to repair the D2D Alt+f10 concern are knowledgeable and smart yet all of them forget to say a fundamental point:
first of all you have to rebuild having a partition soft the D: Acerdata FAT32 empty partition that almost everyone deletes cause is usually empty. Simply doing it, everything turned fine as well as the recovery worked perfectly. »
Yes much of attempts to restore fail for this reason condition.
B An other typical problem the Acer Master Boot Record (MBR)is damaged, or changed by the MBR of another program. You can reinstall the Acer MBR if the partition PQservice exists or if you can have access to the necessary data files.
On a functional FAT32 Windows system the partition table beliefs are OC or OB with regard to installable FAT32 system files plus 12 or 1B for Hidden FAT32 partition, for a NTFS program the known partition table beliefs are O7 for installable NTFS files system and 27 with regard to Acer custom hidden NTFS partition:
1. Go in the bios plus disable the D2D recovery choice.
2. Download partedit32.
3. Identify the PQservice partition by the size (there is an information package at the bottom of the partedit window) it does not take small sized partition approximately four to 9 Go. Once produced change the type of your partition directly into 0C(FAT32) or 07(NTFS) and conserve. Reboot and now you should be able to get around inside the PQservice partition.
Search for the two files:
(The name of these two files could be different sometimes)
When localized open the command prompt windows as an manager and enter this command “mbrwrdos.exe install rtmbr.bin”, to install the Acer MBR. Close the command prompt, reboot once again your laptop, reactivate the D2D recovery in the bios. Now ALT+F10 should work and run the particular Acer Erecovery when the laptop begin.
Somebody who tried to follow the 1st method but did not succeed to get the 2 files found another means to fix restore the partition.
Use partedit32 to locate the partition pqservice(on desire 5920g, its the larger 9 gigabyte partition)
Change the partition type in order to 07(Installable NTFS), reboot.
After restart, go to the windows computer management plus mark the PQservice partition because active then reboot again.
Voila!! You can now proceed to the road in order to recovery
On a nonfunctional Windows program.
Download the Ultimate Boot CD(UBCD) run it choose in the menus:
-For me GAG functioned well, but you can choose one of the other boot loader, you will identify the PQservice by it type(hidden).
Just install any boot loader and employ it to boot into the PQservice to start the particular Erecovery restoring process.
C The last problem: You replaced your own hard disc( in this case PQservice is not really present any more) or your own partition was erased or broken.
Solution: I hope that you burnt the Acer restoration CD/DVD in order to had been asked to you at the time of the very first use, cause if you did not earlier make a backup of your laptop by causing a disc image, it will not be feasible to use the Acer Erecovery.
Let us give the last words in order to Max:
« Problem Sorted Alan. And you’re right that an external hard disk unit for data backup it’s good. Yes I have it and backed-up my data before starting messing up… »
